A Holistic Urban Missions Ministry

We offer training and service for those that wish to extend God’s Kingdom through inner city missions, chaplaincy and volunteer work for those most in need.

History

In April 1995, a group of thirty volunteers was put together to visit and help people during times of sickness, providing them with emotional and spiritual assistance, as well as social aid to those most in need.

This was how The Good Samaritan Ministry was born, under the leadership of the husband-and-wife team of Jorge Alzate and Gloria Rios. The Ministry develops and implements several different pastoral, social and humanitarian programs.

The Good Samaritan Ministry has served for 25 years, with its HOSPITAL MINISTRY supporting churches in the Aburra Valley (Medellin and its 9 surrounding cities) with missionary work and hospital and community chaplaincy programs.

THE GOOD SAMARITAN MISSIONARY COMMUNITY was born in 2018, with the goal of presenting people and families with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and sharing a holistic missionary vision in the Poblado and Envigado sectors in the south of the city.

COVERAGE AND STRATEGIC ALLIANCES

In the course of the Good Samaritan Ministry’s Development Plan, it connects and cooperates, through its Hospital Ministry area, with different government and private institutions that work in community wellbeing and Social Risk Management (event prevention and mitigation). These entities include: The Mayor’s Office of Medellín (Secretary of Family and Social Inclusion and Culture Secretary); the Municipal Volunteer Council for the Mayor’s Office of Medellin; METROSALUD (Social Government Entity); AMAUTTA (Care for the Elderly).

It also participates in MINISTRY NETWORKS, to maintain unity amongst ministers and churches in the city and strengthen their social and humanitarian work. It belongs to the Chaplain’s Association of Colombia Network. It is a Fraternal Ministry with CHRIST FOR THE CITY INTERNATIONAL-COLOMBIA. It participates in citywide events with entities like CITY TO CITY. It cooperates with different missionary entities in pastoral, social and humanitarian activities. The Ministry currently has a Cooperation Agreement with UNITED WORLD MISSION, for mentoring and training leaders to work in the Chaplaincy.
